Who is the most charitable of us all?
In the official statistics given by HMRC it gives interesting reading as to who amongst us is the most charitable.
Based on self-assessment tax returns for the year 2019-2020:
- The majority of donations were made by people who are employed – 557 million people, with those giving out of pension income, coming in second place, with 313 million donors
- If you were over 65 you were most likely to donate, followed by the 45-55 year age bracket
- More men donated than women
- Most donations were between £101-£500, although more than 32 million donations were in excess of £10,000
- Surprisingly, the less you earn the more likely you are to donate, and the more you donate as a percentage of total income, but the highest earners do donate the most overall, as shown in the table below:
